LAUC-R DEI Book Club

The LAUC-R Diversity Committee is starting a quarterly, community-centered, drop-in book club. These quarterly meetings will be a space for all members of UCR Library to engage with literature from our field on the topics of diversity, equity, and inclusion. We emphasize community-centered here because we want all participants to share ownership of this book club and to have equal access to facilitating group discussions, not just Diversity Committee members. Participants may drop-in and out of the book club as their capacity and time permits. There is no commitment to finish the entire book or attend every meeting. Folks who are able to attend at least 3 of the 4 meetings will receive a special LAUC-R swag item as a token of appreciation for their participation!

Given the positive feedback to our previous webinar discussion on “CRT in LIS,” we will be starting off this book club by reading excerpts from Knowledge Justice: Disrupting Library and Information Studies through Critical Race Theory, edited by Sofia Y. Leung and Jorge R. López-McKnight. This text is available open-access; anyone can view, download, and print it as needed using the above link.

For our first meeting on August 23, we will be discussing the introduction to this book, “This is Only the Beginning.” We look forward to seeing you there!
